A hypochromic, crescent-shaped erythrocyte, probably resulting from artifactual rupture of a red cell with loss of hemoglobin. Syn: achromacyte, achromatocyte, ghost corpuscle, phantom corpuscle, Ponfick’s shadow, shadow corpuscle, shadow(3), Traube’s corpuscle.
